OUR STORY

End 2016, Daan, a Dutch social entrepreneur, started to rent the main house as an office for the youth empowerment initiative he had developed with a group of Kapchorwa sports coaches. With all the beautiful nature and interesting stories in the immediate surroundings, he soon realised the place could become a hub for adventure & cultural tourism. Together with owner George and his fiancé Eliza he started Home of Friends Guesthouse in September 2017.

Our first guest was the Dutch coach of (now) multiple World and Olympic champion and native of the area Joshua Cheptegei. Soon the tourists followed, who were looking for a base to explore the stunning waterfalls, villages and trails of the area.

Today, Home of Friends has grown into a convenient base to sleep, eat and relax from. We have developed plenty of immersive Community experiences. Both in the nearby environment and the higher belts of Kween District. Our passion is in hospitality, the beautiful nature of Mount Elgon and the skilling of youth towards higher levels of self-esteem and income.

If you are planning on visiting us, we recommend you stay at least for five days, so you completely unwind, connect with the wonderful people and explore the best trails.

In the local Kupsapiiny language Kapchorwa means ‘Home of Friends’. Situated in a village on the green flanks of Mount Elgon, our Ugandan/Dutch-managed Guesthouse combines the best of Ugandan culture & hospitality with international standards. A spacious garden with panoramic views, tastefully designed rooms and delicious food help you to relax in a comfortable environment. Our dedicated team makes time to ensure you have a memorable visit!

We believe social entrepreneurship and skills development are keys to sustainable development. With our affiliated Community Interest Initiatives in sports (athletics) and adventure tourism we empower Kapchorwa youth.
