Home of Friends is not a luxury resort or a mass-tourism stop, but a place for active, curious travellers seeking real connection.
Imagine arriving in Kapchorwa for the first time.
You’re welcomed with a cup of African tea, a fresh chapatti and an easy, spontaneous conversation. All while being surrounded by endless green hills and the quiet energy of people who love life outdoors.
That simple moment set the tone for what Home of Friends would become.
Today, Home of Friends Guesthouse is a cozy hilltop retreat near Sipi Falls, where nature, comfort and Community come together. But at its heart, it is still built on those same simple elements: warm welcomes, shared moments and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the place.
Roots & vision
Home of Friends was founded in 2017 by Eliza and Daan, together with local owner George.
What started as a small youth empowerment office slowly grew into a space where travelers, runners, guides and local families meet, share stories and learn from one another.
From the beginning, our vision was simple: to offer meaningful hospitality that connects people - with nature, with culture and with themselves.
We believed that comfort and purpose don’t have to be opposites. Good food can be both delicious and local. A Guesthouse can be both a place to rest and a place to learn. Tourism can be both joyful and rooted in respect for the Community it touches.

Life on Mount Elgon moves at its own gentle pace.
Days begin with cool mountain air, birdsong and friendly greetings from neighbors on the hill. There is time for a walk through the village, a shared meal or a long conversation by the fire as evening settles in.
At Home of Friends, we’ve learned that slowing down creates space - for reflection, for connection and for appreciation of the small things. Whether you’re hiking waterfalls, joining a local cooking experience or simply resting in the garden with a strong cup of Arabica coffee, you quickly fall into the mountain’s natural rhythm.

Community & purpose
Home of Friends grew from a simple belief: that outdoor sports and tourism can bring travelers and Communities together in ways that help both grow.
Over the years, we’ve worked closely with native guides, women entrepreneurs, youth leaders and athletes to create opportunities for learning, income and pride in Kapchorwa’s cultural heritage. Together, we’ve developed hiking trails, cultural experiences and Community tours that are rooted in local strengths: the people and their stories, landscapes and traditions.
