🌬 The “Breathing Point” of Mount Elgon

Walk to elevated viewpoints locals call the “breathing point” — where wide valleys open toward the Karamoja plains.

Your guide explains the geography, history and identity of the Mosopisiek highlands.

🍯 Practical cultural demonstrations

The heart of this tour lies in interaction.

Depending on availability and season, guests may experience:

  • Bamboo basket weaving

  • Traditional ‘Lakwek’ honey wine making

  • Storytelling about clan systems and naming traditions (including Chepyaganiet river)

These moments offer insight into daily mountain life, grounded in lived experience.

🪨 Mukuuso cave (optional)

If desired, the tour can include a visit to Mukuuso, the largest cave in the area.

Practical Information

  • 4-hour moderate hike with a trained native guide

  • 1 hour boda boda transfer each way (total activity approx. 6 hours)

  • Start and end point: Home of Friends Guesthouse

  • Includes: Boda boda transport, packed bites (rolex + fruit) and lunch in a local restaurant

  • Recommended: Good hiking shoes, long trousers, warm jacket, rain gear, sunscreen and refillable water bottle
