Sipi Falls Hike
Uganda’s most famous waterfall trail — and a perfect starting point
If it’s your first time in the Mount Elgon highlands, chances are you’ve heard of Sipi Falls.
Three waterfalls.
Coffee farms on steep green slopes.
Wide valley views stretching toward Karamoja.
It’s Uganda’s most well-known waterfall circuit — and for good reason.
We’re not based in Sipi itself (we’re in Kapchorwa), but we gladly help our guests arrange a smooth, guided Sipi Falls hike as a classic Elgon highlight — and often as a great warm-up before exploring deeper trails around Kapchorwa and Kween.
What Makes the Sipi Falls Hike Special?
Sipi is scenic, accessible and vibrant.
It’s ideal for:
First-time visitors to Mount Elgon
Families
Travelers wanting a flexible half-day activity
And with a trusted local guide, the experience becomes much richer than just “waterfall viewing.”
What You’ll Experience
1. The three waterfalls
Each waterfall has its own character:
Sipi 1
A scenic walk through village paths and banana plantations.
Sipi 2
Walk behind the curtain of water and feel the spray up close.
Sipi 3
The dramatic 95-meter main waterfall with sweeping valley views.
Choose the 3-4 hour hike and your guide will take you to all three — with time for photos and maybe even a refreshing dip near waterfall #2 (conditions permitting).
2. Coffee farms & local stories
The trails wind through Arabica coffee farms that have been part of this region for generations.
Your guide will explain:
Traditional coffee growing methods
Daily life in Sipi villages
How tourism supports local guides and families
3. Valley views & Sebei heritage
On clear days, you can see far across the plains toward Karamoja — and even toward Kenya.
Along the way, you’ll hear stories about the Sebei people: warriors, rituals, and the running champions who grew up in these hills.

Sipi is the Beginning — Kapchorwa is the Deeper Story
Sipi Falls is beautiful and iconic.
But if you’d like to explore beyond the classic circuit, we warmly recommend our Community-developed trails around Kapchorwa and Kween:
Kapchorwa-Benet Trail – a full mountain crossing through remote villages
Kapchorwa Wilderness Hike – meet cave dwellers in hidden valleys
Mosopisiek Trail – a slow 2-3 day immersion in indigenous highland life
Kapchorwa Nature Walk – flexible village & waterfall walk close to town
These slower, more immersive experiences directly support local families and empowerment initiatives in our region.
